Thanks for posting this information. I am learning digital photography and am at a beginner level. Since I know nothing about PS yet (I am signed up for a class next month), I am forced to try and get the best photo with no help from PS. Lighting is so important to create the mood you are looking for. Thanks again for the info.

Hello...I have only one experience to share, and it was a good one. I shoot primarily motion pictures, but once in a while, stills for time lapse sequences...I rented a Canon 40D body from Lens pro to Go, a company that my Daughter uses and swears by, and I had an absolute great experience...the body arrived early, came in a Pelican case inside of a shipping box, was beautifully clean, etc. And the price when everything was considered, was very competetive. I highly recommend Paul.

Like a few other here, the software took forever to load. My last email to them was April 24th, and I finally got a reply TODAY - 20 days later!

At least they apologized for the delay.

I'll try it again as soon as I can, but I'm turned off already.

Well finally got around to it, just terrible.

Bad software with very limited options. No option to put a picture on the cover. Cropping and fitting images in the software basically does not work. Integration with flickr and smugmug works good, but that about it. I would not use the site again until the design aspect is beefed up, this does not come close to the other photo book companies I have used.

I'm no attorney but the Canadian law looks awfully familiar. It's <a href="http://www.cb-cda.gc.ca/info/act-e.html#rid-33751" rel="nofollow">section 77 of the copyright act</a> and like the proposed US bill it requires "reasonable efforts to locate the owner of the copyright" and the owner only has five years to come forward and collect royalties and if the licensee does not pay royalties the photographer can then sue in court---just like the proposed US bill. (And the orphan works protection does not apply if a court rules in your favor that the search was not reasonable in which case all normal copyright infringement rules apply.)

Maybe there is something else about the Canadian law that I am missing. Can you show me the differences?

Just about every single member supported artist association in the U.S. is against this bill, Time Warner, Google, the RIA, Rupert Murdoch, and every other billion dollar media corporation is for it. Follow the money people!
The bill uses vague terms like "good faith" and "diligent search" so that the rights grabbers will have loop holes in court, if any artists can even afford to take them to court, for even if the artist wins, THEY CAN'T COLLECT ANY DAMAGES OR ATTORNEYS FEES!
And no, this bill is nothing even remotely like the Canadian law. The fact that Mr. Watson tries to pass it off as if it is, casts his intentions in ill light.

I'm surprised at the previous comments about how fast they received their book. I ordered mine on May 4th. As of today (5/9) I haven't received the book, nor have I had any additional emails from Albelli. This combined with the glitches in their software is rapidly earning them a very unfavorable review.

Well great!
If we assume that the examples provided above(222 apps in Canada, so a Vermonter can restore family photos from three generations past, etc) are typical of the type of circumstances the Orphan Works bill is meant to address it seems like their might be an easier solution than a radical shifting of the status quo.
Why not have all those interested in using images of unknown origin set up a site where the images in question and any available information can be viewed publicly by potential rights holders?

It depends on the camera, the software, and the subjective taste of the viewer. You're right that the same code should produce the same image whether it is run in a camera or on a PC. But cameras are limited in processing power and space for code which necessitates using different (not necessarily worse) approaches for image conversion than what is available in desktop software.
