A winner has been chosen! Borrowlenses selected Bryan who wants to get his hands on the Nikon 10.5mm f/2.8 AF DX. Congratulations! Thanks for playing, everybody.
What better way to get acquainted with online lens rentals than with a free rental? The folks at BorrowLenses.com contacted me over the weekend and generously offered Photodoto readers another chance to receive a free 2-week lens rental. This is the second promotion we’ve done with them. Bryan Villarin was the winner of our last drawing and spent some free quality time with the Canon 85mm f/1.8 USM.
Here’s what you have to do:
- Leave a comment describing which lens you would like to rent and why you want to rent it. Leave a valid email address so that we can contact you if you win (your email address will remain private and is used for no other purpose).
- Open to U.S. residents only.
- The winner will need to place an order online with a valid credit card number to receive the rental. The card will not be charged but is required to ensure that the lens is returned. BorrowLenses.com is a reputable business but if you don’t feel comfortable with this condition please don’t enter.
- The offer excludes super telephoto lenses and camera bodies.
That’s it! The comments will remain open until midnight on Tuesday March 17th, 2009. After that, BorrowLenses.com will choose a winner and we’ll announce it here. Good luck! And a big thank you to BorrowLenses.com for sponsoring this giveaway.

I really want to rent the Canon 300mm 2.8 IS lens. I am trying to save up to buy that lens, even through it will take me while. Being able to rent it for 2 weeks would give me a chance to try it and see if the lens I’m looking for for my needs. I would love to be able to try with my sisters sports teams and pictures.
I would love to rent the nikon 14-24mm f/2.8, i want to see how amazing that lens really is and play around with a wide angle as I only own the 85 1.8 right now.
Are you shooting with a D700 or D3? If not, skip the 14-24 and rent the Tokina 11-16, Sigma 10-20, or Nikon 12-24. You’ll appreciate the wider view. If you have a full frame sensor definitely rent the 14-24. It is awesome.
I think you have a typo: That’s it! The comments will remain open until midnight on Tuesday January 17th, 2009.
Anyhow, I’d like to rent a tilt shift just because I don’t have any idea how to use one and it intrigues me on what it’s capable of.
Yes, thanks! Corrected. The drawing officially ends on March 17th 2009.
I’d like the chance to put the Canon TS-E 24mm f/3.5L through the paces by experimenting with some tilt-shift techniques.
I managed to stick my hand into the concert photography cookie jar and enjoyed the taste. I’d love to upgrade to a faster lens and zoom to really capture these events. Which one will I try/purchase? BorrowLenses can help me decide and help grow my business. Thanks!
I would love to try out the Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8 Lens. I tend to use my 50mm lens at 2.8 alot and I LOVE it, but sometimes I find myself needing to zoom or back up where my feet can’t take me. (I almost fell in a lake once trying to back up on a boat dock and get the shot I wanted!) I would love to have the option to get a wider angle or more zoomed in shot, still at my 2.8 aperture!
I’d love to try out the Canon 70-200 f2.8 IS. I really want to try out this range of lens but I haven’t been able because I just can’t afford it right now. I’ve been playing with the idea of getting the Sigma 70-200 f2.8 II but I don’t think it would do Canon’s lens’ justice.
I’ve been wanting to try the Canon 24-70 2.8L for some time. My family is going on vacation in April so if I had the opportunity to use this lens, I’d be able to take advantage of one lens with a fairly good focal range for shots of my kids playing on the beach.
On May of this year, I will be embarking upon the next stage of my life by marrying my long-time girlfriend and for our honeymoon, we’ve decided to fulfill our long-life wish of experiencing the beauty of Europe with a 14-day Mediterranean cruise.
As an avid photographer and proud owner of a Nikon D90, I intend to capture as much sights and moments that cities such as Rome, Venice, Barcelona have to offer which is why I would express my interest in the Nikon 85mm f/1.4 AF. The lens is said to be super fast and best suited for photographing in poorly lit environments such as cathedrals or museums. Being able to photograph indoors and without a flash is the ideal conditions, hence my interest.
And let’s face it, Bokeh shots are always amazing and this lens would yield some perfect results with the technique.
I’ve never shot with an “L” lens, nor a wide-angle lens, so the Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L would be the one for me. I would love to play around and experiment with that one and see where it takes me!
I have been drooling over the Nikon 85mm f/1.4 AF for a long time now. I wish I had enough money to get it but would LOVE the opportunity to play with it.
I am getting ready to leave for a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Iceland with my wife. The photo-opportunities are innumerable and I currently only own three fixed length lenses. I would rent the Canon EF 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6L IS not only is it an L series but seems like the best all-in-one lens available for my Canon 30d. My hope is for some amazing landscapes as well as unbelievable lifestyle photography. We are leaving March 23rd so It’s possible that the contest ends too late. But it’s worth a shot!
If I could rent a lens, I would like to rent a Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5. I love photography, but can’t afford to fully experience this expensive hobby! I only have a 28-135mm IS lens, so to be able to rent a nice wide-angle lens would mean a lot to me. Plus, who knows where it might take my photography skills? :)
I’d love to try out the Nikon 85 1.4 lens. I’ve seen the amazing portrait work and sweet bokeh that others have created with this lens. Drool….
I’m really into prime lenses lately, and the Canon 24mm f/1.4L would be a dream to work with!
I’d love to rent the Nikon 10.5mm f/2.8 AF DX Fisheye lense because I am going to Costa Rica on my honeymoon next Sunday and would love to get a picture of a lizard AND the amazing green background, all in one photo.
I love having the Nikon 10.5mm f/2.8 fisheye in my bag. You can’t use it for everything and I think people definitely overuse it but no matter what you are shooting adding a couple shots with the fisheye add a little creativity to your shoot. Weddings, performances, landscapes, interiors, and even portraits all can have their series of photos enhanced with a couple fisheye shots.
I’d LOVE to rent the Nikon 45 f/2.8 PC-E Tilt-shift lens. I’ve been seeing applications of it (toy model look, straightening buildings, and portrait use) and have been dying to try one. My friends own the Canon variant and I was able to fiddle with it, but I’d like it for two weeks to see if it’s the right lens for me, to see if I can justify the $1,800 price tag, if I can learn to use it, and because it’s an awesome lens.
I’d like to shoot with the Nikon 14-24 f/2.8 or the Tokina 11-16 because there’s a sign I’ve shot a few times, but the lens I have for my D90 just don’t get wide enough for the look I’m trying to get. I’d also like to try one of these super wides on my film camera for an even wider perspective.
I am chomping at the bit to try a wide angle lens, particularly the Tokina 11-16 f2.8. Have become obsessed with looking at other’s wide shots and want to try that route myself — getting UP CLOSE and personal!!!
I would love to try the Canon 100-400mm IS L lens. This is the legendary lens perfect for birding. I’m going away on Spring break in a few weeks and having this lens would be incredible. Thanks Photodoto.com and borrowlenses.com.

I would like to try a Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8. I have a 50mm 1.8 and love it and plan to buy a 24-70 one day and it would be great to use one before.
I have a huge interesting in renting a wide prime lens, like a 28mm or 30mm. Winning this would be awesome for me.
I would like to try to Nikkor 24-70 f/2.8 for sure.
My niece and goddaughter, due to financial constraints, has asked her uncle to photograph her wedding, since the family has admired my pictures for some time. This is a first for me and all my research points me towards a fast wide angle lens for those low light situations (and my lack of expertise with flash). So the Canon 16-35 f/2.8L11 or 24-70 f/2.8L would be my choice. That and any free advice you may have to offer!
Wow, what a way to try out a lens!
My choice would have to be the Canon TS-E 24mm f/3.5L. I’ve done tilt-shift effects in Photoshop with some success, but I would absolutely love to use the real thing. (Then I could actually tell people that it was right out of the camera and not done in postprocessing!)
A big thank you to John and BorrowLenses.com for this opportunity!

I would love to try the Canon EF 14mm f2.8 Mark II. I am extremely interested in wide angle photography lately and would be interested in testing this lens prior to buying one.
Love to try the Canon 70-200 F2.8 – this is on my ‘sooner than later’ wish list, but love to try one to make sure it really does what I want!
I would love to rent a tilt shift lens compatible with my Nikon D60. I am just starting out as a photographer and my first job offer is to take pictures of large (tall) drill rigs and before I go out and purchase a tilt shift lens, I would love to give one a try!
I would absolutely love to be able to rent either a Canon EF 28mm f/1.8 or a Canon TS-E 24mm f/3.5L. My only current lens is the 50mm f/1.4, and since I have a 50d I have the 1.6 crop factor, which makes it extremely hard to shoot for my 365 project.
I’m confined to a relatively small space, and am often short on money so I can’t afford to buy a more versatile lens. I’d love the tilt shift as well due to the fact that I live in San Francisco and am constantly taking pictures of the buildings and with the tilt shift I think I could get very interesting angles, and it would give me a great experience to figure out how they work exactly.
I’d love to be able to try out the Canon 85mm f1.2L. I’ve got a wedding to shoot coming up and the lighting will likely be fairly low during the ceremony. The 85mm f1.2L seems like the perfect lens for that, plus I’d love to just be able to get my hands on an L lens of that quality.
As a natural light portrait photographer I would kill for some quality time with the Nikon 200 f/2. I am all about shooting wide open, so that lens was made for me (the price however, was not) I see in the rules it says Super Teles are not eligible for this, but on the site the 200/2 is listed under Tele and Super Tele so I am not sure if it qualifies for this.
If it does not, I would also looove to get my greedy hands on the Nikon 85mm f/2.8 PC-E. For portraits, there’s nothing else out there like a PC-E lens
I would like to rent a 300MM 2.8L for two weeks in the month of June. My daughters Dance recital is then and its 3 days of little twerps dancing. I want to get some good shots
I would absolutely love to try out the AF Fisheye-Nikkor 16mm f/2.8D. I’ve never had a fisheye before and would love to try one out! The fisheye gives photos such a unique and funny look that makes me turn my head to the side and just stare it. Sounds kind of silly, huh? I’m always taking pictures of everything, but with this lens I think I would take on a new view of the things around me. Thank you for the opportunity. :)
I would love to rent the Canon Macro MP-E 65mm lens. I am a huge fan of macro photography and this lens are “it” for macro enthusiasts.
I have equipment that will work just great with them: the macro twin lite MT24-EX, and a Velbon sliding rail.
This lens are my dream lens, and would like to use them for two weeks to see how much I really like them!
I would want to rent the NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8G IF-ED, because I’ve always wanted to have fast glass on ANY of my lenses, I have an 18-70 f/3.5-4.5 lens and an 70-300 f/5.6 lens, so I would have a field day with ANY lens (especially the NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8G IF-ED) that has aperture below 3.5. If that lens would not be available, I would love a short focal length lens with f/1.4 or ANYTHING anything fast :)
I just want to see what I could do with a fast lens!
I would like to rent Tamron Telephoto zoom lens – 200 mm – 400 mm – F/5.6 – Nikon F to practice some wildlife photography especially practice it in the Wildlife Sanctuary here in Colorado.
I would like to rent the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 USM macro. I live in a really old rented house. It’s creaky and it leaks heat like a sieve, but it’s got two things going for it: it’s full of very interesting bugs and there are a ton of flowers just starting to bloom. I’ve only got this place for a few more months before the owners come back and it would be a shame for all of these great subjects to go to waste just because I wasn’t able to save up for a lens in time.
Soccer season just started. It would be great to borrow a Canon 70-200mm F/2.8 IS for the opening game. Thanks!
I NEED to rent the Canon 70-200 f/2.8L Lens. I’m shooting a sporting event, a model, AND a baby in early April and I really could use this as my current gear is limiting. I really need to win this or the pictures will probably suck. lol.
I just want to see what it’s like to shoot with an L Lens.
I would love to rent the Canon 17-40 f/4L Lens. I shoot mainly band portraits and I’m totally blown away by the quality of this lens. It’s so clear, sharp and well built. Other than my 50mm f/1.8, i’ve just been using the 18-55mm kit lens the best I can since it’s pretty much all I have. This lens will help me up the image quality of these photos. It’s great on the far end and I really enjoy the wide angle that it has, giving you more options. It’d be a nice thing to shoot with for a couple weeks.
I’m a wedding and portrait photographer – strictly canon girl. I have been dying to try out the 85mm 1.8 on some portraits to see just how wonderful it is (I know it is, I’m just in denile that I don’t own it. lol).
I am dying to try out the Canon EF 85mm f/1.2L II so I can compare it with the 1.8 for low light portraiture.
I’d love to test drive the Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8 L II USM lens. I recently upgraded to the 5D Mark II, and I’d love to see that bad boy on the full frame sensor.
I’d really like to try out the Nikon 105mm f/2.8 Micro AF-S VR lens.
I have the 18-55mm, 50mm 1.4, and 55-200mm lens, but not a macro lens. This lens is on my list and would love to play with it first.
I would love to rent the Nikon 500 f/4G ED AF-S VR so I can really reach to the birds and wildlife I love to photograph.
Am dying to try out Nikon’s 80-200 f/2.8. Cannot decide if should spring the extra dough for the speed.
I really want to rent a Canon 400mm f/2.8 or bigger to take some photos of a pair of Bald Eagles in their nest outside of Terre Haute, Ind.
One Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II please with fries, ketchup and mayonnaise LOL!
seriously, I want to try an UWA lens and see If it’s a good addition to my camera gear. Also this April my family and I will be traveling to Maryland, Washington and neighboring states and I would love to snap famous landmarks, monuments and scenery. A nice wide angle lens would definitely do justice (I hope!)
I’d rent the 85mm f/1.2L. I mean look at it, its glorious.
