Get a free lens rental from BorrowLenses.com
// November 10th, 2009
Our friends at BorrowLenses.com have offered to give away another free lens rental to a lucky Photodoto reader. It’s been a little over a year since we did our last lens rental giveaway. Last year’s winner rented an 85mm f/1.8 and loved it.
Lens rentals are a great way to try out lenses before you buy or just to get great glass for the occasional need. BorrowLenses prices and service are top notch. If you’d like to try it out for free, here’s all you have to do:
- Leave a comment describing which lens you would like to rent and why you want to rent it. Leave a valid email address so that we can contact you if you win (your email address will remain private and is used for no other purpose).
That’s it! (Except for a few conditions, below.) The comments will remain open until Tuesday November 17 at midnight. After that, BorrowLenses.com will choose a winner and we’ll announce it here. Good luck! And a big thank you to BorrowLenses.com for sponsoring this giveaway.
Conditions of entry:
- You must be in the U.S. to enter.
- The winner will need to place an order online with a valid credit card number to receive the rental. The card will not be charged but is required to ensure that the lens is returned. BorrowLenses.com is a reputable business but if you don’t feel comfortable with this condition please don’t enter.
- The offer excludes super telephoto lenses and camera bodies.

Without a doubt one of the new Canon TS lenses – have wanted to try one out for ages.
ooooh… I’d love the opportunity to try out the Nikon 14-24mm f2.8 or 24mm PC-E lens.
No question on this one for me: the Canon 50mm/f1.4
I would love to win a chance to use the Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM – Ive heard so many great things about it. And I would love to use it for one of my photoshoots I have coming up in 2 weeks.
My choice would be the Canon EF 50mm f/1.0L USM.
I’d love to use it over the holidays to shoot candid portraits of my family and find out what I can do with such a fast lens.
It would be simply wonderful if I can use a Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 VR.
I am the sports editor in my high school’s newspaper, and in addition to writing/publicizing our teams, I shoot alot of sports. It is a MAJOR challenge to shoot indoor volleyball and friday night lights football with a Nikon 70-300 f/4-5.6 (owing to the fact it has such a high f stop, compromising sports pics.)
so, I simply need an f/2.8 to help me take “golden” shots of volleyball and football players in action, while allowing me to maintain a high shutter speed without having to go a high ISO, and to entice readership of our newspaper
I would like to rent a Nikon 24-70 – I have read a lot about this lens, and would love to test drive one.
I would be unbelievably happy to rent a Nikon 14-24 f/2.8 that I tried briefly (and loved) at a MINI Cooper event, or the GODLY 24-70 (which I had the good fortune to be able to rent once to go to Italy). I know exactly when I would use either rental! Pureto Rico this Winter (24-70), or MINIs on the Dragon in April (14-24).
The place I live is bigger than a small town, but smaller than a big city. I photograph everything it has to offer, but it doesn’t really offer that much.
Since I can’t change my scenery, maybe I can change my perspective. I would rent the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 to change my view of the things around me.
I’d rent the Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8G AF-S ED… again! An amazingly sharp, incredibly versatile lens. Fast, too!
Hi – I love the nikon 24-70/2.8. I had it for over two months and sending it back was tearful! But those rental fees add up ;)
Canon 50 f/1.0L!!!!!!!!!! I’ve always wanted to work with this lens. And I love how the description of it basically says if you don’t know, you’re in the wrong place.
Definitely one of the Canon 100mm L lenses!
Canon 24-70mm f/2.8 – I’m thinking about buying this lens, and I’d love to give it a trial run before spending that much money.
Nikon 10.5mm f/2.8G AF DX ED Fisheye
I have really been wanting to try out a fisheye for receptions!
WOULD LOVE TO RENT the Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8G AF-S VR IF-ED. Why? Because I don’t own a telephoto lens and I need to see if it would work with my style of photography!
Now if BL can only get a hand on that nikon 35 f/0.9 lens haha.
I have been itching to try the Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8G AF-S ED. I would love to see what I can do with a wide angle lens and the fixed 2.8 is a must. Definitely need to try this lens before spending big bucks to buy it.
Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM please! Been wanting to try this lens for ages now.
I’d love to rent a Canon TS-E 24mm f/3.5L II Tilt-Shift, because it’s something I probably wouldn’t rent/buy on my on, but I’d love to see how it works and try to do something creative.
Oooo… Maybe the Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8G AF-S ED would be in by then? I’d try that out!
this is a tough one! for me, the canon 45mm T/S. i’ve been wanting to try that out for a while. coming in at a close second is the new 100mm IS… but i have the old model so that’s going to have to take a backseat:)
I would love any Canon L series if only to have that glamourous yet wispy little red stripe on my camera! In particular, I’d love to try the Canon EF 50mm f/1.0L USM. I’m a big fan of my 50mm f/1.8 lens for portraits and would love to take that to the next level.
Love to use the Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM in a upcoming photoshoot. Would improve my night shooting while I’m prowling the dark city streets with my model.
I would love to try the Nikon 85mm f/1.4, I hear it’s a beast for portrait photography and it wouldn’t hurt to rent one for the holidays!
Huum I think it would have to be the 16-35 2.8 L. I’ve rented it before for a wedding and almost cried when I had to mail it back.
Nikon’s 70-200mm f/2.8, I’ve got a concert assignment it’d be perfect for, and it’d be a great first interaction with you guys
I shoot a Canon 40D and would love to try the Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS. It’s out of my price range (other than to rent) and I have not yet had the opportunity to shoot with one. Thanks.
The Nikon 70-210 f2.8 VR, have always wanted to try one out for a variety of different subjects.
Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 L IS USM Macro as I would like to try it out prior to purchasing my own unit for product work.
I really badly want to borrow the Canon 100mm f1.2 macro! I’ve never used a macro lense and I’ve got a wedding coming up in December and both I and the client would LOVE some crisp, clear close ups of that ring!! :)
Hey Guys,
I am a young photographer serious about wildlife photography. As anyone knows in the field, big lenses can be just darn expensive and often way out of touch. I would want to try one of the biggest telephotos you guys have for a Nikon body plus a Wimberley head and foot to use it to the best of its ability. All the best.
I would love to take the new Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 L IS USM macro lens out for a test drive. My brother is going to be home from college soon and I’d love to get some family pictures and attempt some editorial shoots – he’s a fabulous model.
I would love to try out the Lensbaby Composer. Been very curious to play with the effect ever since I first heard of them.
I would love to try the Nikon 85mm 1.4 lens.
I want to rent a Canon Tilt Shift lens because it’s my current dream lens
I would love to have the Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM or Canon EF 85mm f/1.2L II USM because on the 12th of dec. I will be doing Help-portrait, and will be giving free portraits to people who generally cant afford it, and since I will most likely be paying for prints I cant really afford to rent better glass than I already have for the shoot.
Ooooo! The Canon 15mm f/2.8 fisheye would be loads of fun to try out!
I would love to shoot with the Canon 85mm/f1.2 L lens. I love playing with depth of field, and from the photography I can see, it is an absolutely fabulous lens to shoot with. And such gorgeous bokeh.
I would really love to try out Nikon’s 70-200mm f/2.8 – I’ve always wanted to try this lens, but buying it outright has always been just out of reach.
I’m soon to get a 300mm 2.8 L IS and i really want to try it out before i purchase the glass. I just recently got the opportunity to shoot sports and this glass is a must have. I would also gladly be pleased if i get the opportunity to use a 400mm 2.8 L IS on my 5dmarkII. These great primes are in my wish list and i would like to try them out before spending a lot of money on it.
I’d like to experiment with a Tamron or Sigma wide angle lens. I want to really see how they compare to Nikkor. Plus, there are some really cool shots I can get with a wide angle lens!
I would rent the 85mm f/1.8. Bokeh is just amazingly fun to explore and play with!
Definitely a Nikon telephoto lens because I love close-up shots!
I would like to rent the 85mm 1.2 L II because when I rented it before, I got the best photograph EVER of my 17-month old son. It’s a photo he’ll keep forever. I want to try again for an even better one! Baby boy!
I love to rent the Nikon 70-200 f/2.8 for when I shoot the Football games at my school at night. I feel invincible with this lens!
I think I’d like to take the Canon 35L out for a spin….everyone raves about that lens.
I would love to get into more Macro photography and what a better way then renting the new Canon 100mm 2.8L IS :)
I’d go for the Canon 70 to 200 F2.8 IS. It has the focal length I like for portraits, and it is the super sharp, Cadillac of lenses.
I would probably go for the Canon 50mm f/1.0L because I am fond of low light photography, and I imagine this lens has got to be amazing for that!
