Grand opening photo contest

I’d like to celebrate the opening of Photodoto.com, a project I’ve been working on for some time, with a photo contest! Sound like fun? Even better: there are real, actual, honest to goodness prizes!

Prizes

1st place: Canon Powershot SD450 5MP Digital Elph Camera with 3x Optical Zoom
2nd place: SanDisk 1 GB Ultra II CompactFlash Memory Card
3rd place: A 1-year subscription to Flickr.com, the best photo-sharing application in the world.

How to enter/Official rules

  1. Register at Photodoto.com.
  2. Submit a great photo that best represents the theme “Beginnings” to the Photodoto group at Flickr.com (by adding it to the photo pool). The photo must be taken and owned by you. You can register for a free Flickr account if you don’t already have one.
  3. Tag your photo with the tag: PhotodotoContest1
  4. Submitted photos must be appropriate for all ages.
  5. No professionals.
  6. One entry per person.
  7. Photoshopping is allowed, but remember: this is a photo contest.
  8. Entry deadline is Friday May 5 at 9 PM Pacific Daylight Time (PDT). Winners will be announced on May 8.
  9. Photos will be judged by a panel including myself. None of the judges are professional photographers and will simply select the photos that they like the best.
  10. Winners’ photos and honorable mentions will be posted online at Photodoto.com.

    Define “professional.” For me it means if someone stopped taking photos (and did not take another job), they would starve to death.

    I’d have thought something like “Ryan leapt into professional photography immediately after college” would tag someone as a professional in this context ;) But I don’t know, each to his own.
