Update: BorrowLenses has chosen a winner!
I’ve been renting lenses online for a few years now (click here to read some of our lens rental service reviews). A macro here, an out-of-my-budget 2.8 there. It’s a great way to get just the lens you need when you need it without having to plunk down thousands of dollars to own it. Renting lenses has saved me money in another way too. By renting first, I’ve discovered there were a couple of lenses I thought I wanted that I didn’t really like after all.
What better way to get acquainted with online lens rentals than with a free rental? BorrowLenses.com contacted me over the weekend and generously offered Photodoto readers a chance to receive a free 2-week lens rental. Here’s all you have to do:
- Leave a comment describing which lens you would like to rent and why you want to rent it. Leave a valid email address so that we can contact you if you win (your email address will remain private and is used for no other purpose).

I think I’d want to try a Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 because I’m very much into street photography right now and my 50mm is too close for comfort. :)
Oh–this is going to be a tough one. Okay, I’d love to get my hands on a Canon 85mm f/1.2. It just LOOKS fancy with the red ring and all! And I’ve been wanting to get some nice bokeh for portraits.

Reason:
I fell in love with this manual lens, it combines my love for art with my love for photography. The images captured with this lens can be surreal beyond anything I have ever captured with my camera.

This lens is equivalent of a 50mm focal length, which is fairly good for portraiture but to me this lens is a way to paint with my camera.
I’ve been wanting to try a tilt-shift lens for a long time now. I’m not really sure how it works and I think it’d be great to get my hands on a Canon TS-E 24mm 3.5L to see how it affects architectural photography and if I can find any other cool uses for it.
My curiosity about the 1-5x Macro is next in line.

Lens: Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8G AF-S ED
I have been dying to go out and get some great landscape pictures. Landscapes are my favorite to photograph buy I cant get enough in with my current lens.
I want to get hyperphocal in the best way possible.
I’ve been wanting to try out the Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L. I’m not as experienced at photography but I love taking pictures of my little girl. This lens looks like I could get some real clear pictures of her while blurring the background a bit better than my current lens. I’ve never tried a wide angle lens before – this one really looks great!
I’d love to try the Nikon 85mm f/1.4. I have a zoom that covers this focal length, of course, but I’d like to see how much sharper the prime would be. Plus, 1.4? Talk about bokeh!
I’d love to get the Nikon 70-300 VR for a couple weeks to shoot some action shots of the kids playing soccer and the surf and sand action down at the HB pier or Trestles. It is light enough to capture the action without needing a monopod and the VR gives you a couple of stops of speed.

I’ve been doing the 365 day photo project for about a month now and I’m really starting to get into photography, but on a college budget I can’t really afford the lenses I want, but the next one that I’d like to get is the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro lens. I love nature and would really love to capture some close-ups of plants and insects in their natural habitats.
I’ve been looking at wide angle lenses to help bolster my portrait photography forever and just haven’t been able to try one. I’d love to give the Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 a try.

I’ve been dying to get my hands on a macro lens and head over to my local arboretum, so the Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 USM Macro would be an absolute dream for me.

I’d love to rent the Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 – I plan to buy it when I reach a goal I’ve set for myself, but I’d love to be sure that it is the lens for me first.
I need to demo/rent the Nikon 17-55 f/2.8 lens for an upcoming wedding in a very dark hotel lobby. I’d like to someday soon purchase either the 17-55 or the 14-24 f/2.8 lens for these types of shoots and for my landscape photography. I think both of these would compliment my 80-200 f/2.8 quite nicely.

I have been doing the picture a day thing with my daughter for 2 years and almost 3 months, begining with the day she was born. Not much of a fan of the traditional portrait, I have tried to capture each day something she has done. I own the 50mm 1.8, but to get the close ups without interupting what she is doing is becoming difficult and would like to see if purchasing the 85mm would acomplish what I am trying to capture.
I’d love to try the Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L. I have been struggling with getting that lens or the 24-70 f2.8 L as my next lens, and the pros and cons that I’ve read on-line are not helping as much as I hoped :). I do lots of low-light indoor stuff and I need to see if the F4 can cut it because the extra reach would be nice. Thanks!
If it can only be one… ;-) I’d like to explore the world of ultra wide. It would have to be the Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5. My widest lens currently is the 18-55 kit lens and I always feel like I need more wide when shooting urban landscape and architecture shots. I take a lot of doucmentary shots of historical architecture and would always rather catch everything in one shot rather than try to take multiple shots in pieces that don’t tell the whole story…
Definitely the EF-S 10-22. Want one – but would love to try if first :D
I would love to rent the Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5. I’ve never shot with a lens like this and would be so excited to catch some fall colors and festivals with this wide angle.
